WebThe trick is that the channel leading into the fortress must be made from dwarf-constructed materials (floored and using constructed walls). Dwarfmade materials are immune to erosion, so you can safely create a channel leading to an internal cister (which should be 2 blocks deep and 2 blocks wide to avoid mud-laced water).
